For nearly a century, theIU has been in the vanguard of the global citizen struggle for equal rights to the earth. Our members have worked in their countries of residence for changes in law and public policy we identify as crucial to solving the problems of widespread poverty and period economic recessions or depressions. As an United Nations' NGO, theIU is at the center of important new initiatives to change the lives of some of the world's poorest people.

Our resources are today directed to achieve a renewed global consensus on the true meaning of human rights. TheIU is leading a petition drive to amend the United Nations' Universal Declaration of Human Rights, originally adopted in 1948.
